1. Take Advantage of the Walking Trails

Whether it’s a brisk walk around Blackroot Pool or a leisurely stroll through the woodland near Town Gate, you’ll be improving your cardiovascular health while enjoying beautiful surroundings.

Tip: Aim for at least 30 minutes of walking a day. Use a free step-tracking app to stay motivated and aim for 10,000 steps a day.

2. Join the Free Weekly Parkrun

Every Saturday at 9am, Sutton Park hosts a free 5K Parkrun near the Boldmere Gate entrance. It’s open to everyone — whether you want to run, jog, or walk. Sutton Parkrun is a great way to stay consistent with your fitness goals and connect with a community of like-minded people. I also think you’ll all agree running in Sutton Park is a wonderful experience.

Being a Sutton Coldfield Personal Trainer and 6 time Royal Sutton Fun Run winner I also offer a FREE running club every Monday at 5.30 pm, meeting outside Wyndley Leisure Centre by the athletics track. This is an ‘improvers running club’ for all abilities. Whether you are a 40-minute 5k runner or a 20-minute 5k runner, this club is for you.

The sessions involve a short warm-up, then interval training, then a cool down and stretch. Nobody is left behind, so please come along and give it ago.

3. Do Outdoor Yoga or Meditation

If you’re looking to improve flexibility and reduce stress, try some yoga or meditation in the park. All you need is a mat or towel and a peaceful spot. Great locations include the grassy areas near Longmoor Pool or the quieter clearings behind Keepers Pool.

4. Use Natural Features for Bodyweight Workouts

No gym? No problem. Sutton Park’s benches, railings, and open fields make it perfect for a full-body workout using just your body weight. Try this simple routine:

  • Step-ups on a bench – 3 sets of 15
  • Incline push-ups – 3 sets of 12
  • Walking lunges – 3 rounds across a grassy area
  • Tricep dips on a bench – 3 sets of 10
  • Planks – 3 rounds of 30 seconds

Do this routine 2–3 times a week to build strength, burn calories, and increase stamina.

Important: Always swim with others, know your limits, and be aware that wild swimming is done at your own risk. There are no lifeguards on duty.
